From Dream Paintings, ADP began experimenting with spray paint and complex, multi-layered, hand cut stencils that required incredible precision and patience to create. In Pop Art tradition he started by creating images of contemporary movie stars and celebrities that lead to a series of commissions. ADP expanded the concept with the “Monica” series, featuring Italian movie star, Monica Vitti, a childhood favorite and iconic beauty. In this series ADP used paintings in bright complementary colors in a nod to Warhol, enabling the one-of-a-kind paintings to be displayed solo or as part of a series.
The “Monica” stencils lead to the creation of the stunning “Dormeuse” paintings, emotive images that showed how ADP was beginning to weave his knowledge of the European Masters into his work.
